Together with our partner hospitals, we experienced two extremely informative days at our first network meeting in Switzerland. The first network meeting was hosted by the Hirslanden Group – the place where our purchasing community began over five years ago.

The agenda was packed with fascinating topics, including Dzevrije Tomic’s impulses on business partner management, an inspiring best practices presentation by Thomas Binz on material cost management with DRGs, insights into the Sana Cross Check by Christian Engel, an interesting tour of Klinik Hirslanden, as well as current developments in digitalization and, in particular, the product information system currently being set up for members of the Sana Suisse Med purchasing community.

A highlight of this two-day event was the excursion into neuropsychology with Prof. Lutz Jäncke, whose lecture on decision-making and reasoning processes gave us plenty to think about. “Have you ever tried to really understand yourself or another person?” – a central question that fueled our thought processes. His valuable tips on making good decisions will certainly stay with us for a long time:
- Change of perspective
- Collect knowledge
- Shaping the future – not predicting it
- Emotions are not a good advisor
- Avoid time pressure
- Benefits of the group

Many thanks to all participants, speakers and organizers for these inspiring two days. Anne-Kathrin Knaack handed over the baton for the next network meeting to Peter Zettel, Head of Purchasing at the University Hospital Basel (USB), member no. 2 of our purchasing community. We are already looking forward to the next exchange in Basel in spring 2023.
